Aldeburgh Food and Drink Fringe Festival

The Aldeburgh Food and Drink Fringe Festival takes place from 23rd September to 8th October 2011 in the days following the main weekend event of the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival and features fringe events throughout East Suffolk on farms, in the countryside, beaches, market towns and villages.

These include workshops, behind the scene tours of producers, progressive dinners and specially created menus at supporting restaurants and eateries, family activities, farm visits, guided walks and special cookery demonstrations. Something for everyone!

The Fringe Events are a series of activities which show case the field to fork principles, an ideal opportunity for local producers to promote their wares and unique opportunities for the public to either visit producers, explore the countryside or have new dining experiences.

Guided Tour around The Chilli Farm


Have a behind-the-scenes tour of the Chilli Farm, learn how to grow chillies using many different methods, learn more about the different types of chilli, their medicinal uses and which ones are hot, and which are not.

Special Menu at The Westleton Crown, using produce from our neighbouring farms and countryside


We have produced a special menu to run in conjunction with our main dinner menu. The special starter, main course and dessert are inspired by food supplied from our neighbouring farms and countryside. Richard Bargewell, our head chef, will create dishes that will be a taste of Suffolk on a plate.

Emma Crowhurst at Helmingham Hall


Suffolk Chef Emma Crowhurst is going to host a special cookery demonstration in the stunning surroundings of Helmingham Hall. Emma will teach inside tips and tricks that you can take away with you and practice at home! This special demonstration will be followed by a two-course lunch cooked by Emma herself.

An introduction to breadmaking with John Dean


A special, one-off price for the Festival - £25.00!
A chance for those who would like to try their hand at breadmaking. Teaching for 25 years, John from the New Round House Restaurant will take you through each step of the process during the demonstration and workshop. John will explain the techniques, from choosing the flour and ingredients to the baking. You will have the opportunity to take all the raw ingredients and produce a batch of bread to take home.
