Beccles and District Museum

Open 1st April to 31st October, from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Mondays, when the museum is closed. Open on Bank Holidays during these months. There is no charge.

Beccles Clocks
For many centuries, Beccles was one of the most important towns in Suffolk. This is reflected in the number of clock and watch makers operating from the town, from the 17th Century onwards. Few market towns can boast such a number. Research to date has revealed the makers listed below. This number continues to rise as details of Beccles clocks are passed from current owners to the museum.

Details on most makers and some photographs of clocks are on file at the museum. Persons wishing to research this detail should contact the museum (see Contact Us page). If you have a clock and can give the museum a photograph this will be appreciated. Clock locations are not recorded on file or released to anyone else for security reasons.

Beccles Books
It is a policy of the museum to support books with a local historical content, and it is our intention to produce and publish at least one book every two years.

Three books, details below, have been printed to date, two under the logo 'Beccles Museum Books', and one by three friends of the museum. All the proceeds from the books are used to support our museum.
