Days Out in Woodbridge
Woodbridge is a lovely town that lies on the River Debden - and here we find our first day out idea! The river is an impressive sight and simply perfect for a quiet stroll or a picnic with family and friends.

The River Deben is home to the Woodbridge Tide Mill, one of the earliest examples of such a building in the UK. The mill has been restored and is now open to the public. For more information on Woodbridge and its fascinating historical buildings please see our Guide to Woodbridge.

Another simply fantastic site to visit along the River Debden is Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge - ancient burial mounds of an Anglo-Saxon warrior king's ship, protected by the National Trust. The ship was discovered in 1938 along with an iconic warrior's helmet & shield, plus gold and silver treasures. These items are on display at the site and the exhibition tells the compelling story of Anglo-Saxon warriors, treasure and kings, with a full-size reconstruction of the burial chamber. Events are held at Sutton Hoo throughout the year, such as guided tours, Anglo-Saxon themed events, wildlife walks, talks, open-air theatre, plus family events and children's activities.
