Elm Tree Farm in Bury St Edmunds is beautifully converted barn offering B&B accommodation starting at just £25 per person per night. The B&B is situated in over two acres of lovely Suffolk countryside – just the place to let your dog run free!

Butley Priory, Suffolk

Butley Priory (pictured above) is a luxury B&B, set in the wilds of the Suffolk coast between Rendlesham Forest and the sea in Woodbridge. This Gothic-Fairytale monastery has been beautifully converted to offer 6 double rooms of accommodation for you and your pet. The Full English Breakfast provided in the Great Hall is a unique experience not to be missed!

Sweffling Hall Farm in Saxmundham is a delightful guest house offering two rooms (one double and one family sized room), plus a garden with a pond along with chickens and goats providing milk and free-range eggs. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Dog Friendly Accommodation in Suffolk


If you are looking for a quiet place to stay in the Suffolk countryside, then Newmans Hall Bed and Breakfast in Sudbury is the place for you. Newmans welcomes pets, as long as they are well behaved, and dogs will love walking around the picturesque gardens. For the owners, there is a heated indoor swimming pool and tennis courts.

Fiddlesticks, in the village of Pentlow, Clare, is a 1960s bungalow offering dog-friendly B&B accommodation. The rooms at Fiddlesticks have been specially created with the needs of the disabled and elderly in mind, and include features such as an en suite with wheel-in shower room. This is the perfect place for guide dogs.

High House Farm, Woodbridge

High House Farm (pictured above) is a lovely family-run farm in the heart of rural Woodbridge, offering B&B and self-catering accommodation. This beautifully restored 15th Century Farmhouse comes complete with exposed oak beams and large inglenook fireplaces set in attractive gardens, and well behaved dogs are welcomed by prior arrangement.

Set in a delightfully remote rural location within close proximity of Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket, Highwaymans Bed and Breakfast (pictured below) offers optimum comfort for a relaxing stay. With exceptionally large grounds, this is the perfect place to let your dog roam free. All pet bookings are available by prior arrangement at no extra cost.

Dog Friendly Accommodation in Suffolk - Camping and Caravanning

There is nothing your dog would enjoy more than a camping/caravanning break, where they can let off steam in the green fields, sleep under the stars and maybe even be treated to a sausage from the BBQ! The vast majority of camping and caravanning sites welcome dogs (some will need to be kept on leads, however), and here are some for your consideration.

Run Cottage Touring Park, Suffolk


Close to the small market town of Woodbridge, Run Cottage Touring Park (pictured above) is a lovely family-run 20 caravan touring park located on the outskirts of the village of Hollesley. The park hosts an abundance of wildlife and native birds to see, from sparrows to barn owls, rabbits to deer, and ducks to king fishers. The site features all expected facilities, plus has an adjoining two acre Dog Exercise Area to keep your canine companion in trim!

The White Horse is a 17th Century Grade II listed inn with restaurant, a large beer garden and a campsite in the picturesque village of Tattingstone, near Woodbridge. The facilities include a toilet block with washbasins, an outside tap for drinking water plus electric hook-up for caravans. Tent stays cost £3 per person per night, and discounts are available for those eating and drinking in the pub. All bookings by prior arrangement.

Along the coast is the friendly and relaxed
Pakefield Caravan Park. With its own heated Swimming Pool and The Cliftonville Club providing a range of family entertainment, plus wonderful sea views and fresh salty air can be enjoyed from this stunning cliff-top location.

The Dell Caravan Park in the Bury St Edmunds area welcomes well behaved dogs and has wheelchair access to an individual disabled toilet and shower, amongst all of the expected facilities. The site, where camping is also available, is divided into Adults Only at one end and a Family Area at the other end. The park can accommodate 60 pitches, including tents.

Polstead Camping and Caravanning Site (pictured below) has a new site for 2009, on the edge of a breath-taking conservation area. There are plenty of opportunities for doggy-friendly activity nearby, or you may choose to relax and enjoy the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

The Walberswick Campsite is a quaint, back-to-basics site open for the six weeks school summer holidays, and is within easy access to Haleworth and Aldeburgh. Well behaved and controlled pets are welcome by prior booking only.

Mill Farm Campsite, Suffolk


Camping and Caravanning sites that welcome dogs-on-leads include Carlton Park (pictured below), set within historic parkland and only half a mile away from Saxmundham, Mill Farm (pictured above), also in Saxmundham, which has its own private pond available for those of you who enjoy fishing.

Westwood Caravan and Camping Park (pictured below), close to Ipswich and Felixstowe, is open almost all year- from 1st March until 15th January, and their charges include all the facilities you'd expect from a quality site – such as 16am electrical hook-up, shower and washroom facilities with full disabled access and equipment, plus an onsite warden.

There are a great many hotels in Suffolk that welcome dogs – far too many to cover in this article, but here are a few of the highlights.

The Ship in Dunwich offers comfortable stays with delicious come-cooked meals in its restaurant. The Ship happily welcomes dogs and is surrounded by nature reserves, heath land and the beach, making it the ideal place for you and your four-legged friend to visit.

A number of their hotels – such as the Hotel Elizabeth Orwell in Felixstowe - allow small/medium sized dogs on leads at a charge of £5 per night.

The Crown Hotel in Framlingham is a 16th century coaching inn full of character, set within the conservation area at the head of Framlingham’s market square. The hotel is just a short walk from the magnificent Framlingham Castle, The Mere Nature Reserve and St Michael’s Church, one of the region’s most beautiful churches. The Crown welcomes dogs and has facilities available for them, along with a disabled toilet and wheelchair access throughout.
