Eastern Angles’ latest production will premiere at the Seagull Theatre in Lowestoft on Friday March 4th before continuing to tour the East of England throughout March, April, May and June visiting community centres, town halls, theatres and tithe barns.
Up Out o’ the Sea is a poignant new play showing how a past tragedy can cause ripples that radiate far into the future. When Carrie turns up in a small coastal town armed with a laptop and a string of awkward questions, her arrival sparks a mixture of emotions amongst the residents. Impressionable young Tweedy is instantly smitten, Mrs Jope the local librarian is full of sage advice but dour old Dolphie, Suffolk’s grumpiest fisherman, is curiously cagey about the events of thirty years ago. Fuelled by a trickle of myths and memories and a desire to discover the real story behind the town’s famous lifeboat disaster, Carrie sets about un-picking the past. A tale of laughter and tears, Up Out o’ the Sea shows how lives can easily capsize when family secrets are dredged to the surface.
Playwright, Andrew Holland was introduced to Eastern Angles through the National Theatre Studio and has written plays for both radio and stage. Waiting to Fly was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and Ever Your Loving Son was based on the letters of two of the Fison family, written from the Western Front to their mother who lived in a small Suffolk village - the village that Andrew lives in now, with his wife and two daughters.
