Getting to Suffolk has never been easier - or cheaper. Coach travel is a great option for travelling on a budget. National Express coaches stop at many places across the county; Ipswich, Felixstowe, Sudbury and Newmarket to name just a few. They also run a ‘Funfares’ promotion on which you can travel for just £1, Cambridge is one of the destinations included. If you travel frequently it is also worth checking out their coach card schemes.
The train is another easy and cost effective way to travel both to and within Suffolk. Again, there are deals that can cut the cost even further. The Anglia Plus railcard includes travel on most National Express, East Midlands trains and First Capital Connect services and, on most, you can take your bike for no extra charge. Lecture by Laura McLean, Finds Liaison Officer, Essex
The Portable Antiquities Scheme has been running in England for over 10 years. In this time the scheme has recorded a large quantity of archaeological material discovered by members of the public through metal detecting and gardening. This talk will look at unusual and interesting Anglo-Saxon objects and will consider how they are helping to contribute and change our knowledge of Anglo-Saxon England.

The beauty of the Suffolk coastline lies in its variety, there is something for everyone. Many of the beaches are dog friendly meaning that your four legged friend can enjoy your day out with you - see
Dog Friendly beaches. There are crunchy shingle beaches, great for a satisfying walk and soft sandy beaches where the children can play all day. The marshland also offers some wonderful spots for seeking out the local wildlife. For the ultimate cheap day out, why not bring a picnic and stay all day?
The Brecks area also offers visitors some fantastic wide open spaces for visitors to enjoy. There are endless trails for walkers and cyclists and also trails for horse riding. You’ll find some wonderful buildings in the area such as Thetford Priory which is free to explore
One final example of a cheap day out is to visit the
Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum in Bungay. There are over sixty historic aircraft to see here along with a vast collection of artefacts. Admission is free.
