Esther Freud's stunning new novel Lucky Break draws on her intimate knowledge as an actress and takes us back to a drama school like no other.

The story uncovers a world of ruthless ambition, uncertain alliances and the many-sided holy grail of success. Her first novel, Hideous Kinky, a bohemian childhood adventure in Morocco, and later, The Sea House, a love story set in seaside Suffolk, are rich with her lucid observations of human nature.

Her characters are so real, they feel like friends, and this novel is a modern-day Cinderella with atwist and an absolute joy to read.

Esther Freud is in conversation with BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Lesley Dolphin. A seasonal lunch with Adnams follows the talk.
