Description

A Traditional Independent Village Pub!
Are you looking for a comfortable, friendly pub full of rustic atmosphere plus excellent beer and food? Yes? Then the Red Lion, nestling within the ancient village of Kirtling in west Suffolk, is the place for you.

We’re Hazel and Steve and we’d love to welcome you to the Kirtling Red Lion. For hundreds of years the Red Lion has greeted locals and passing travellers with warmth, fine ales and excellent home-cooked meals. We are continuing that tradition.

In the summer you can relax outside enjoying beautiful views of the Suffolk countryside while children can have fun in the play area, or watch our friendly chickens scratching around the vegetable gardens When it’s cold outside there’s a roaring fire to enjoy inside.

Visit our website (click on Visit Website link above) and sign up to our mailing list so you don’t miss out on all that’s happening at the Red Lion. You could win a meal for two! Please remember our traditional Sunday roast is very popular so booking is recommended – call us now on 01638 731976.

Not Just Another Boozer
If it’s a pint and a chat you’re after you’ll find good ale and a warm welcome at the Red Lion. We keep Adnams as well as a wide range of excellent guest beers. Add to that Suffolk Cyder, lagers, fine wines, snacks and spirits - we’re sure to have your favourite.

Full of rustic charm, the bar is a relaxing place to be. We even have a traditional bread oven dating back hundreds of years and a gorgeous traditional clay-tiled floor - so we are able to welcome walkers and dogs. If you fancy a bit of peace and a good read, we’ve got a great selection of books on the shelves plus all sorts of games such as backgammon, bar billiards or darts. There’s even petanque in the garden if the weather’s being kind.

With a warm welcome, a real fire and a cosy atmosphere, the Red Lion is your traditional village local.

Locally Sourced Seasonal Home Cooking
Whether it's a romantic evening, a celebration with family and friends or a mouth-watering Sunday roast, you'll love our food. Packed with freshness and flavour, all our excellent meals are cooked to order from scratch in our kitchen. We serve a varied menu to suit all tastes.

Our sausages are either from our own home-reared pigs or from the world famous Powters in Newmarket, who also supply our delicious beef, chicken and lamb. Our eggs are straight from our own chickens or locally sourced - as are our vegetables and fruit as far as possible. Because we source our food locally, we keep our food miles as low as we possibly can - in fact we are almost down to yards in some cases!

Come along to one of our special themed nights - Friday night is Fish night, and we often have special meal 'events' such as Valentines Dinner, Thai Curry, The Mad Hatters Tea Party, and a Tapas evening. Booking is essential for these ever popular occasions.

A FAMILY pub
We love kids - and being parents ourselves we know how good it is to find a pub where the whole family have a warm welcome.

We serve childrens' portions of food, there is a safe play area outside and a selection of games inside, which should keep them happy while you have a break. For your littler ones, we've got our own special 'Lionel' the Lion, who lives on the bar and checks that everything's in order. The kids can give Lionel a cuddle or colour in a picture of him - we'll supply plenty of crayons and possibly even put their work of art on this website.

We look forward to seeing you soon, Hazel and Steve
