Kentwell Hall is one of England’s finest Tudor houses, developed in stages between about 1500 and 1578. To reach Kentwell you will drive 3/4 mile along an avenue of Lime trees. The house is fully moated and reached by two original bridges.
The house is not a stately home but a very much lived-in and loved family home, something it has been for over 500 years.
It is also a project - for 35 years now, a non-stop effort to save this beautiful house, re-create its gardens and form a traditional style farm with rare breeds, including the Suffolk Punch (horse), Norfolk Horn Sheep, Long Horn and British White Cattle and the Baudet du Poitou Donkey; less than 60 in the UK and 800 in the world.
The gardens at Kentwell Hall are a combination of ancient features, landscaping and planting where everything is totally organic. The gardens include the main front lawns with a HA HA and wildlife pond, The Walled Garden with a maze of Lavender and a wonderful range of Herbs and Potage, also has in excess of 60 different varieties of Apple and Pear trees.
One sight not to be missed is the ancient Yew trees with a modern hedge of ‘Pied Piper’ topiary.
Kentwell Hall is home to many special events throughout the year; Tudor re-enactment weeks, Kentwell through the Ages, Magical Weekends and the award winning ‘Scaresville’. Plus musical and outdoor shows.
A fantastic venue with so much to see and do and that all the family will enjoy.
The Stable Yard Tea Rooms are open for refreshments and light lunches.
Kentwell also offers a number of opportunities for visitors to stay on the Kentwell estate.
Hall Barn - Holiday Cottage, Farmhouse-style
Recently converted, Hall Barn, on the Kentwell estate, with its timber frame beams, nooks and crannies, huge garden and antique furniture is a charming location to relax and have fun in. It can be let as 3 or 5 bedrooms to sleep 11 to 14 people.
Charming, stylish holiday accommodation in our gatehouse lodge cottage - sleeps four over two bedrooms, which can each be twin or double rooms. Recently converted to a very high standard.
State Bedroom - Honeymoon Suite
We have a grand suite in the house available to couples who have their wedding ceremony and/or reception at Kentwell. The bedroom is said to have once been used by The (Grand Old) Duke of York and has been restored with its original wallpaper and is decorated with antique furniture, including a gilded 'cupid' bed. The extravagant bathroom is fully painted with murals inspired by the estate and has a very heavy marble bath, that we originally found in the gardens and lifted up through the window with the use of a strong crane!
Bed & Breakfast
Grand rooms in the hall are occasionally available for Bed & Breakfast for wedding guests who wish to stay in the house following a reception.
Basic accommodation in our farm cottage, located in the stableyard. We rent this out during weddings for guests to stay in.
Full details of all our activities/accommodation etc can be found on our website link above.
