Sunday 3 June
Proms by the Sea
6.30pm - 10.30pm
Aldeburgh Seafront - outside the White Lion hotel

On Sunday 3rd of June 2012 the traditional seaside town of Aldeburgh, Suffolk will be host to a quintessentially English ‘Proms on the Seafront Musical Spectacular’. The free event will honour the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The concert will take place just in front of The White Lion Hotel next to the seafront. At 6.30pm the local Stagecoach School of Music and Dance from Ipswich, will kick of the celebrations with performances from children aged between 4 -18yrs followed by a performance from immerging local operatic star, Stephanie Coombes. The 20 piece national Festival Orchestra with Nicholas Ward at the helm and Jeremy Hughes conducting will then begin the Prom Spectacular at 7.30pm with a solo performance from Rachel King playing both electric violin and then saxophone. The Festival Orchestra will then take over again until to 10.30pm with a rousing finale of ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ and a stunning firework display.
As well as this musical extravaganza there will be local pop-up stalls based around the stage selling local food and drink throughout the evening. You might even find a Royal Burger, Great British Banger Hot Dog and of course the Jubilee Pint of Adnams! Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase pomp and pageantry paraphernalia as well as face painting for the children and big kids alike.
This event is the original idea of Peter Osborne of the White Lion, Aldeburgh and will be hosted by BBC Radio Suffolk’s Terry Baxter, Breakfast Presenter. The event is supported by the local council and is sponsored by T A Hotel Collection, Best of Suffolk, East of England Co-op and media partners include BBC Radio Suffolk & Archant, working with Aldeburgh Businesses and Aldeburgh Community Projects. The event is free to attend but all proceeds via charitable collections and donations will be in aid of the Aldeburgh United Charities, RNLI and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Picnic Jazz at The Pavilion 2012
12.00 until 18.00
The Pavilion

In 2003 a small committee was formed to organise a one off fundraising Black Tie Jazz Dinner to help raise funds for restoration work on St. Bartholomew's Church. A marquee was ordered, menus fixed, 250 tickets sold and a little known singer/pianist booked to entertain. Unfortunately, shortly before the event was due to take place, the little known entertainer hit the big time and had to pull out of his commitment in Orford. The event went ahead with the captivating Victoria Newton proving to be a worthy replacement with her Latin American influenced performance encouraging the diners to work off the calories after dinner. To make up for the cancellation the original singer/pianist offered another date and agreed to perform at a Picnic Jazz event later in the year in the gardens of The Pavilion on the river in Orford. As a result, Jamie Cullum was responsible for launching an event that has been repeated every year since then raising funds for local worthy causes. Jazz at The Pavilion 2012 will be the tenth event and there will be a special line up of supremely talented entertainers. The Anthony Strong Trio features a young singer/pianist very much in the Jamie Cullum mould and already generating a lot of interest in the music industry, dueting with Paloma Faith at Radio 2's Stomping at The Savoy on New Year's Eve and playing Jerry Lee Lewis in the West End show Million Dollar Quartet at the Noël Coward Theatre. Melissa James is a very talented singer/songwriter who is currently finishing her debut album for release in time for the July event. The Sudbourne String Ensemble has agreed to perform jazz arrangements of music from the shows, a first for us and them. We are also delighted to welcome back our regular favourites Natasha Hodge and Nick Raison, this year augmented by local band The Jazz Bazaar to provide a little more depth to the usual sublime sounds of Tash and Nick. With the power of Twitter there has been significant interest in this year's event and we have received many requests for tickets already so please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to join us this year at this quintessentially English event with picnics, Pimms and cream teas. See: Well Associates for more details.
Ticket prices: Adults £15 Accompanied children free
