"I have learned more in the last Ten weeks than in any previous courses. It has put the history and purpose of art into perspective."
TEN VICTORIAN PAINTINGS: FULBOURN
Ten Wednesday afternoons 2.15-4.15, September 23 to December 2 2016 at the Fulbourn Centre, nr Cambridge CB21 5BS
No talk at half term
Victorian painting transmitted a vast amount of information to its viewers, on a number of levels: informational, decorative, social, intellectual, moral and spiritual. By examining a limited number of works in detail, (one major work per week), the course aims to unlock a lost iconographical complexity.
IS MODERNISM ART?: HAVERHILL
Ten Wednesday afternoons 2.00pm-4.00pm September 21-November 30 2016 at Haverhill Arts Centre, Haverhill CB9 8AR
No talk week of half term
“Fine Art has become an organism having no perceptible interaction with its environment. For organisms in such a state coroners have a word. They call them corpses.”
Has art always been a luxury stuck away in Art Morgues, or is something profoundly more important?
This is series that will challenge many of you basic beliefs about art. What is it? What does it do? And how do the Moderns fit into that ancient tradition.
Not for the faint-hearted.
"Excellent speaker who never talks down to the audience, and stretches the imagination."
"It has given me a whole different slant on the history of art."
"You have clarified my thinking and answered so many questions I have not been able to resolve myself."
"Many thanks for a wonderful series of talks."
"I learned the difference between a 'good' tutor and a 'brilliant' one; every session he took was funny and interesting, and at good pace so we took a lot in...Thanks Roger!"
