Eat, Drink and Stay at the Six Bells, a traditional country pub only 2 miles from Lavenham in the quiet village of Preston St Mary.
Everybody is welcome including children, dogs (on a lead please), walkers, cyclists, motorcyclists et al. We have a large bar area with dart board and TV showing major sporting events (sorry - no Sky sports), a large lounge area plus our sun room with a view over the car park and huge beer garden where you can sit under the walnut tree and listen to the countryside.

Eat
We serve home-cooked, locally sourced where possible, traditional no nonsense food 6 days a week. At lunch times a main meal is only £5.50 including homemade beef or vegetable lasagne and garlic bread, homecooked gammon ham, egg and chips and sausage and 3 bean hotpot. We also offer a range of white baguettes and granary huffers (triangular rolls from the Lavenham bakery) with various fillings along with jacket potatoes and homemade pates and soups. Ploughman's platters of ham, cheese, egg, homemade quiche and chicken are also available.
In the evenings we always have sirloin steak and hand battered jumbo cod on offer along with a range or 4 or 5 home-made pies including beef and Guinness, ham hock with cider and apple and chicken and mushroom, and a couple of pasta dishes.
Everything else is constantly changing on a daily/weekly/seasonal basis and there is invariably a curry, a couple of fish dishes, a couple of vegetarian dishes and and 2 or 3 other meat and chicken dishes. There are also 3 or 4 starters to choose from and of course a range of homemade desserts including fruit crumble (different varieties but always available), baked ricotta and orange cheesecake with summer berries, choc and nut brownies with raspberry ice cream, warm spiced apple cake with vanilla ice cream, gooseberry foo with shortbread fingers, etc, etc.
On Sundays, as well as the usual lunchtime menu, we also offer a Sunday Roast for only £8.95 (£4.95 children) which alternates between beef, pork and lamb over three weeks. It comes with roast and new potatoes, roast parsnips, 4 seasonal vgetables and the appropriate accompaniments.
You need to book for Sunday roast by the Friday before as we cook to order to ensure everything is fresh and not hanging around for hours. As for lunch and evening meals you only need to book if there are 6 or more of you but it may be advisable to book for Friday and Saturday nights and in December when Xmas parties tend to interrupt the normal evening service.
We can cater for groups for every occasion including birthdays, Christmas, funerals, weddings, etc. and can do sit downs for up to 30 and buffets for up to 80. Menus are tailored to your needs and finances so please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Drink
Adnams Broadside and Woodfordes Wherry are normally always available along with another guest ale from Woodfordes or the Humpty Dumpty Brewery. We also stock Fosters, Stella, Guinness and Stowford Press on draught along with a range of bottled lagers and ciders, soft drinks and spririts. We serve our wine in individual serve bottles so it's always fresh along with a range of larger bottles to share.
Stay
You can stay with us either in the Six Bells Barn or on the Six Bells Paddock.
The Barn is a ground floor flat that sleeps 4 and can be hired on a self-catering or bed and breakfast basis whilst the Paddock is our newly certificated Camping and Caravanning Site that accommodates up to 5 vehicles (and up to 10 tents) but you don't have to be a member to stay. We don't currently have proper electric hook-ups but we can supply you with power if needs be. We are also members of the Motorhome Stopover Club. For full details and prices please see our website, email us or call us - details above.
You can be sure of a friendly warm welcome when you visit us at the Six Bells, including the locals, and especially in the winter when we have a large log fire.
Any questions or queries please don't hesitate to contact us and we'll do our best to meet your needs. George and Vanessa look forward to meeting you soon.
