Enjoy the great outdoors together
If you or your partner have a passion for history, there are a number of castles and stately homes that remain open all year round. The 12th century Orford Castle
pictured above and Framlingham Castle
are both fascinating destinations, click on their links to find opening times and prices. The old Abbey in Bury St Edmunds is also open throughout the year. For more ideas, see Historical Places in Suffolk
If you both love exploring the great outdoors, a trip to one of Suffolk's many RSPB
Bird Reserves could be the perfect day out for you and your partner. Strolling hand in hand through beautiful countryside and sitting quietly in a bird hide offers a chance for some quality time together. And if you love a leisurely stroll then try our guide to Walking in Suffolk

A meander along the Thoroughfare in Woodbridge
is a lovely trip out. Here you will find many small, independent shops nestled in between the larger high street chains. One such shop is a very apt stop for Valentines Day - Les Chocolats Belge. Chocolate and Valentines go together perfectly and the shop owner, Valerie Loades, has gone the extra mile. She has decorated some of the boxes to include items of jewellery - maybe Woodbridge will see more Valentines Day proposals than usual this year? Once you have finished shopping, put your feet up and relax with a half day spa at Ufford Park Hotel, Golf & Spa
set in 120 acres of historic parkland on the outskirts of Woodbridge, you can also enjoy lunch there, a round of golf or book a room and stay the night. A few miles on from Woodbridge, you will come across the 4 star boutique Hotel Kesgrave Hall
(pictured above), set in wonderful grounds, this a great place for a romantic getaway or just a lovely meal - the restaurant offers a fabulously relaxed space for drinks or dining and is open all day.
The historic towns of Lavenham
and Long Melford
are perfect for a romantic weekend. For a real treat, book into the The Great House
at Lavenham, their award winning restaurant offers incredible French cuisine and their unique rooms feature 4 poster beds, pictured above, and little extras to make you both feel special. The lovely village of Tuddenham near Newmarket and Cambridge is also worth a visit, with one of the main attractions being Tuddenham Mill
the traditional watermill which has been converted to a chic and stylish luxury boutique Hotel. Incredible views, excellent service and super stylish rooms make this a wonderful choice for a couples getaway.
Enjoy a seafront stroll
Suffolk's many beaches provide excellent locations for a walk with your loved one, hand in hand, whatever time of year it is. Perfect for picnics in the summer, and huddling together before dashing to a cosy pub in the winter.
Our favourites include Aldeburgh where you can make your way along the seafront. This location inspired much of Benjamin Britten's work, and there is a sculpture in honour of him. To find out more about Britten and the work of the amazing organisation - Aldeburgh Music, pay a visit to Snape Maltings
, one of the world’s leading centres of music and a visitor destination of outstanding natural beauty, guaranteed to wow your loved one if they are classical music fan.
For a delicious coastal lunch whilst you are in Aldeburgh, stop in at The White Lion Hotel
pictured above, right on the seafront and enjoy a relaxed dinner in the Brasserie, if you really love the seaview, book one of their 38 cosy bedrooms. Alternatively try The Brudenell
their 2 AA Rosette Award winning Seafood & Grill restaurant offers panoramic sea views and the freshest seafood, they also have wonderful airy rooms to stay in.
Another seaside walk is in picturesque Southwold where you could make your way slowly down the Pier, or wander on the prom past those famous beach huts. Be sure to pop into the amazing Amber Shop
whilst you are there and pick out a romantic gift for your loved one - how about an amber engagement ring?! If you fancy staying in this ever popular seaside town, or somewhere nearby, then pop in and see Suffolk Secrets
, whose main office is based in the old water tower near the harbour, they have an extensive range of cosy cottages for hire throughout Suffolk with many in Southwold itself, perfect for a couples getaway.
A little further along the coast is the quaint village of Walberswick, the windswept beach and dunes offers a great opportunity for a picnic in the summer, or in the winter months, head to The Anchor. Here, you can cosy up together in front of their open fire, The Anchor
is one of Suffolk's top seaside foodie destinations, so best stay for lunch whilst you're there, and dinner, and in fact breakfast as they also offer great accommodation.
Travelling on from Walberswick and a little bit inland, you can stumble across High Lodge Leisure
, just off the A12 but hidden amongst several hundred acres, a great location for outdoorsy couples wanting to partake in some countryside activities, there is a marvelous 18 hole golf course plus clay pigeon shooting and fishing but what we love are the luxury lodges, hidden in the forest or on the banks of the expansive lake and you can enjoy your own private hot tub.
For a secluded and super romantic bolthole, try Woodfarm Barns
just outside of Stonham Aspal, these 6 luxury barns all include their own private gardens and 3 have hot tubs. If you need a bit of retail therapy inbetween the relaxation, then head to Stonham Barns
for a unique shopping experience, there are also restaurants, Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and even a golf course onsite!
Dinner and a show
Relive your first date by visiting one of Suffolk's superb Theatres
. With so many to chose from across Suffolk you will definitely find something you enjoy together.
