The OEP has received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike for a series of contemporary, period & family productions, alongside some memorable stagings of operas from the standard repertoire.
Founded in 1999 by its Artistic Director, Oliver Gooch, a performance of Britten's 'The Turn of the Screw' in Orford were described in the press as "one of the most exciting performances I can remember".
OEP has attracted attention and support from prominent figures in the arts world, including Sir Colin Davis, our Patron, Dame Janet Baker, Sir Charles Mackerras and the late Sir Terence Frost, designer for our 2003 production of The Rape of Lucretia. Plans for the 2007 season include a national tour of The Rake's Progress and concert performances of the eighteenth century opera, Inkel and Yarico by Samuel Arnold to celebrate the bicentenary of the abolition of slavery. OEP's Education Programme continues in earnest, starting in November 2006 with projects in North London.
