Stoke by Nayland
Stoke By Nayland
Stoke by Nayland is a wonderfully quaint village, making it the ideal retreat from the stresses and strains of city-living.
Stoke by Nayland stands on a hill overlooking the Stour and Box river valleys, and is around 1.5 miles from Nayland. Close by are Hadleigh, Sudbury, Castle Hedlingham and East Bergholt. It is also close to the border with Essex in a strikingly attractive area that is referred to as Constable Country, named after the Suffolk-born Romantic painter who lived nearby and filled many of his painting with local scenery.
In this small-but-perfectly-formed village, visitors will discover a great many cottages, plus timber-framed houses and building such as the Village Hall and the old Guildhall. These attractive buildings all surround a large recreation field which makes up the centre of the village. One of the highlights to any visit to Stoke by Nayland is St. Mary’s church. This fantastic building has retained much of the original structure and features from when it was rebuilt in the fifteenth century, and it appeared in several of Constable’s paintings. The Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa
is wonderful place for those of you who favour a more activity-based break in order to unwind, and for those on business trips. The Hotel is, of course, the ideal place for golf fans to visit as it is home to a golf club with two championship, eighteen-hole courses set in 300 acres of Suffolk countryside. The courses are named after the famous painters, Gainsborough and Constable. The Gainsborough is the longest established of the two, and The Constable has amazing views of the church of St. Mary. The golf club hosts two international PGA tour events; the Senior Tour since 2006 and the EuroPro Tour since 2004.
This 80 room hotel has more excellent facilities such as a state-of-the-art spa and fitness centre packed with hi-tech equipment and offering pampering days and specialist treatments & therapies. There are also extensive conference, banqueting and function suites, the Pippin retail shop selling wines, gifts, delicatessen foods and leisure wear, plus a selection of dining facilities to suit every requirement – making it the ideal venue for both leisure and business. The hotel’s newly-refurbished Lakes Restaurant enjoys superb views over the lake and the golf courses. The restaurant opens out onto the south terrace which in the summer provides an idyllic area for al fresco dining, pre-dinner drinks and canapés, a barbeque, or simply the perfect place to relax and enjoy the magnificent panoramic scenery.
