Special Offers and Events

Our new brochure is out now and covers courses until November 2012. Please click on the Visit Website link above to see full details of all our courses on offer at present in much greater detail, plus potted biographies for the tutors.

The Birds of Prey Experience filled up so quickly that we are putting on another on Saturday 15 September, but only for seven people, so book soon if you are interested.

New topics for this year are:

- Goat Keeping, for the complete beginner.
- Hunting with Harris Hawks, an unusual course for only six people. With one Harris hawk between two people, you will walk the fields and woodlands and see what the birds can find.
- Decorative rope work – learn how to make fenders for your boat, or maybe a mat.
- Scything, using light Austrian scythes. The course tutor, David Mason, says that cutting grass and undergrowth with a scythe is much nicer than using a strimmer.
- Organic Veg-Growing with Pauline Pears of Garden Organic (formerly the Henry Doubleday Research Centre).
- A Tortoise owner/enthusiast workshop with Jane Williams of the Essex rescue centre.

Description

SHORT COURSES AT ASSINGTON MILL!

We run an eclectic mix of over 50 different short rural skills and crafts courses throughout the year. The courses, which include beekeeping for beginners, hen keeping, story telling, upholstery and a wealth of others (see below !) - are held in East Anglia’s first strawbale building, on a small 70 acre farm in one of Suffolk’s beautiful secret valleys, which is managed as a private nature reserve. Included in the programme are home-made lunches, biscuits and cakes, with food either grown on our own allotment, or sourced locally, and organic where possible. We specialise in gluten-free food.

So whatever you're looking for you are bound to find something new of interest at Assington Mill.
