Description

Welcome to Woodhall Manor

Set in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, close to Woodbridge and the Heritage Coast, Woodhall Manor is something special. A privately owned country house dating from 1566, Woodhall makes the perfect setting for an exclusive wedding, a business retreat, corporate or private events or a house party to remember.

Nestling in nine acres of landscaped grounds and beautiful walled gardens, Woodhall has recently been lovingly restored with exquisite attention to detail. The house retains all the atmosphere and charm of a sixteenth century building, whilst the 12 en-suite bedrooms have all been individually decorated to a truly exceptional standard with every modern convenience.

We believe that every event or stay at Woodhall should be special. Rather than offer packages, your visit will be tailor-made by our events team to meet your exact requirements.

Whatever your reason for visiting Woodhall, you will have exclusive use for the duration of your visit.

History of Woodhall Manor

A manor was held here in Saxon times by Turmod and entered the Domesday survey under the name of Udsham. After the Norman Conquest, the manor was held by Gilbert, Bishop of Eureux in Normandy. His reputed effigy can be seen in a niche in the enclosure known as the Bishop's Garden - at the south east corner of the house.

"Wood Hall Tenements" in Sutton are mentioned in the survey of properties after the death of Sir John Wingfield in 1481. In 1553 the manor was held by William Fernely, citizen and mercer of London and was sold with the main manor of Sutton in 1675 to Sir Nicholas Bacon for £4,000.

George Waller purchased The Wood Hall and Sutton Estates in 1788 and sold Wood Hall about two years later to Henry Edwards, Edwards's daughter married a George Waller from Waldringfield. Wood Hall stayed in the Edwards family until the latter part of the Nineteenth Century. It then returned to the Wallers and was subsequently sold to Sir William Cuthbert Quilter, the 1st Baronet of Bawdsey and the surrounding land is still owned by the family.

Part of the present structure dates back to 1566. It was enlarged and modernized for the Dowager Lady Quilter in 1903 hence the plaque over the Main Entrance door.

Your Wedding

Woodhall Manor Hosts Exclusive weddings and has been classed Suffolks most premier wedding venue. Whether you choose to hold the whole ceremony with us making use of our licence for Civil/Partnership Ceremonies or opt for a traditional service followed by a reception at the Manor you can be sure of a memorable wedding day planned with precision to your exact requirements.

We can host Ceremonies for up to 200 guests in the Dove Cote whilst smaller weddings can take place inside the main house in the Nelson Room or Bishops Room which are licensed for up to 70 and 60 respectively.

Our Banqueting Suite can seat 150 for a wedding breakfast or up to 200 if a less formal buffet menu is preferred. Smaller parties can opt for a more intimate setting; dining in the Manor House itself. You can choose from one of our 'house' menus or we will be happy to develop a menu especially for your party.

Should accommodation be required, up to 30 guests can stay in 12 stunningly appointed en-suite bedrooms including our cottage. Our Event Co-ordinators have a wealth of experience in wedding planning and will work with you in the build up to your wedding and on the day itself, to ensure that your special day is full of memories to treasure forever.

Your Business

Woodhall Manor is under 2 hours from London. Rather than a conference or meeting venue, we believe ourselves to be a 'business retreat'. Somewhere executives can gather to plan strategies and take their business forward.

Your group will have exclusive use of the house and the day’s business can be conducted in any of our four reception rooms. Accommodation is provided in 12 en-suite bedrooms furnished to an exceptional standard. Our catering partners will make sure you enjoy some wonderful food, with menus developed to your organisation's individual taste and budget.

We don’t believe any business trip should be all work and no play and once business has concluded, your party can relax before dinner in our wood-panelled bar, or make use of the leisure facilities. Should something more exhilirating be required, our Events Manager can arrange anything from shooting on a local estate, to a James Bond style casino night.

Larger corporate events such as conferences, award ceremonies and balls can all be hosted in The Club - with facilities for up to 150 during a formal dinner or 200 at a conference.

Your Event

Conferences, award ceremonies and balls can all be accommodated. We have space for up to 150 for formal dining and conference facilities for up to 200.

Good food and drink is an important part of any event and a wide range of menus is available for you to choose from.

Should your event require something special, such as a unique theme, our Event Co-ordinator will work with you to make sure it is an occasion to remember.
