How to use the Guide

Using the Guide is really easy. You can search by week, month or venue and if you press Ctrl F on your PC (Command F if you’re on a Mac) then you can search the events by word. For example, if you’re looking for an event that is ‘free’ simply type that in and the list will jump immediately to any free events.

All the events are listed in date order so check your diary, see when you’re free, and see if there’s anything in the list that floats your boat.

You will start your day by visiting the thriving Newmarket Gallops where you will see some of the 3,000 racehorses exercising on the 2,500 acres of Jockey Club Estates land. Then get a behind-the-scenes tour of a busy racing yard before heading to the prestigious members only club, The Jockey Club Rooms.

Founded in the middle of the 18th century, the wonderfully preserved Jockey Club Rooms still boasts original features from the days when gentlemen, politicians and royalty met to discuss, wager and argue over their racehorses. Its 18 country house style bedrooms have provided members with a genuine home away from home for over 250 years. You will receive a guided tour of the The Jockey Club's incredible collection of sporting art and racing memorabilia which provide an eclectic and truly unique collection the pictures and artefacts united by a shared passion for racing which spans four centuries.

Following this, indulge in a sumptuous three-course lunch.

This popular half-day morning tour is ideal for people with other afternoon plans or those just wanting a glimpse into the world of racing. You will spend the morning visiting the gallops, a trainer's yard and then onto the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art or The National Stud (see set dates on our Discover Newmarket website). Your time spent in the trainer's yard gives you an opportunity to see your favourite stars and meet the team behind scenes. Due to racing commitments we can't guarantee you will meet the trainer but if not, there will always be a member of senior staff on hand to give you the inside track!

The famous Tattersalls Bloodstock Auction House attracts the wealthiest owners and industry figures from all over the world, including members of the Royal family from countries such as Dubai and Qatar. As bidding soars in the saleroom the electrifying atmosphere radiates throughout the whole town.

With our special Tattersalls package you will start your day with a guided tour of the Newmarket Gallops where you will see some of the 3,000 racehorses exercising on the heath followed by a visit to a busy Trainer's yard. You will then visit The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art for a tour and a spot of lunch before being taken up to Tattersalls to have a behind-the-scenes tour and learn what bloodstock agents and buyers are looking for when picking a horse to bid on. You will get to sit in the famous Tattersalls ring and witness the adrenaline and excitement as horses are paraded and bid on for thousands of Guineas..
