Dog friendly Suffolk

Bring your dog to Suffolk with you – she’ll be delighted with the space she has to roam around, searching out pheasants and rabbits. A lot of pubs in Suffolk accept dogs and many hotels – there may be some restrictions on where Mutley can go within the hotel but generally she'll be most welcome. And don't forget most local butchers will be happy to supply a large bone, probably free of charge or for a nominal 10p, which will keep the dog occupied while you take a well earned rest.

And whilst she’s here on her holidays why not take her to the local poodle parlour for a quick trim? You can drop her off and collect a transformed, sweet smelling animal a few hours later for a very reasonable price. At Otley College they offer FREE dog grooming and bathing so check them out at
Otley College

Last year, research by Yell, publisher of the Yellow Pages, revealed that since 2001 the number of Dog and Cat grooming businesses listed has increased by 93%. And the Sunday Times estimates that the pet pampering market in the UK was worth £73m in 2006, so maybe we should all be signing up for a course at Otley College!

Several village fetes incorporate dog shows during the summer so keep an eye out for these. They may not be Crufts but they are a lot of fun for all the family. There might be prizes for the Owner that looks most like her dog (or v.v.), Most Lovable hound, Best of Heinz 57 Breed etc

27th August Lowestoft - Dog Show starting at 12pm on the Royal Green. Contact Julie Warnes on 07773 126446

Fancy entering your terrier for a spot of racing? Go on, they will love it. The East Anglian Terrier Lurcher club was started in 1975 for the promotion of the Jack Russell as a working terrier. It has since evolved and in 2002 opened its doors to Lurcher owners for the first time.
Dates for 2007 are as follows:
Terrier & Lurcher Show May 6 Rougham Estate nr Bury St Edmunds tbc
Terrier & Lurcher Show & Terrier Racing June 24 Rougham Airfield Bury St Edmunds
Terrier & Lurcher Show September 9 Rougham Airfield Bury St Edmunds

There are a couple of other Dog Shows that Lilian Clarke, the Club organiser also arranges -
Terrier Lurcher & Family Dog Show May 20 S.H.S.A Welnetham Nr Bury St Edmunds
Terrier Lurcher & Family Dog Show June 10 Euston Park Nr Thetford
Please contact Lillian Clarke on 01359 231995 or 07850 943129 for more information.

So far the annual doggy fashion show held by Harrods, Pet-a-porter, hasn't quite reached Suffolk, and I haven't heard of any doggy weddings in the county yet, but watch this space!
