Farmers Markets

Our Farmers Markets and Farm Shops are some of the finest in the country because of our lengthy agricultural history, which is still an important part of our local economy. You will often meet the farmers and producers at our markets and be able to find out where your food comes from.

Barbara Cook / Jimmy’s Farm Shop

Jimmy’s Farm, Pannington Hall Farm, Wherstead, Ipswich
This pig farmer has been the focus of national interest for many years. While most farms don’t have their own TV show, Jimmy’s has become a nationally recognised icon. Jimmy’s goal was to establish a farm that would breed rare-breed pigs, cows, and sheep, as well as educate the public about farming, nature, and food. This has led to the Woodland Trail and Animal Paddock found at Jimmy’s Farm. This site also welcomes children to partake in courses during the school holidays and offers an active education resource and an exciting JIMMY’S ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND where children of all ages can slalom like snakes and climb like monkeys up the rope ladders. Jimmy’s Farm has a diverse shop containing delicious meat from the expansive butchery section as well as a farmers’ market that has earned its spot in the Guardian’s choice of Britain’s Most Vibrant Food markets. Find out more about Jimmy’s Pig Farm here.

This market has been running longer than any other in Suffolk. Even during the time of the recession, the market was bustling with locals who knew they could still do their weekly grocery shopping and enjoy a cup of coffee at the Leaping Hare. The market is always changing due to the combination of permanent stalls, guest stalls, and fortnightly or monthly regular stallholders. Domini Dairy, East Coast Fish, Suffolk Spanish Traders, and Stour Valley Smokehouse are just some of the permanent stalls you’ll find here. Casa de L’Oli and Hedgerow Cordials have been known to rent stalls from time to time.

Maple Farm in Kelsale is a small farm in Suffolk owned and run by a family. A few years ago, we began converting our fields to organic farming, and this has led us to understand the benefits of natural processes compared to artificial fertilisers and pesticides. In addition, we have noticed an improvement in soil health and an increase in bird populations.
Our goal is to expand our organic market garden, manufacture our own cereals into stone-ground flour, and sell organic vegetables, honey, and eggs, all produced on our farm. We distribute within a fifteen-mile radius of the farm via our box program, and we always attend particular farmers’ markets to reach a broader market. For more information, see Maple Farm Kelsale.
