Fine Dining in Suffolk

Suffolk boasts a wide range of dining options, from fine food shops to fine dining restaurants. Wherever you might be in Suffolk, you’re never too far from multiple fine dining options. Here are just a few of the choices you can enjoy when dining out in the area.

Those of you seeking delicious, high quality, A La Carte French cuisine in a beautiful and interesting location are in for a real treat with the following three sister restaurants:

Mariners Restaurant, Fine Dining in Suffolk

Mariners Restaurant
The recently relaunched Mariners Restaurant in Ipswich not only offers superb French cuisine but also provides guests with unique surroundings in which to enjoy it. This French Brassiere is found onboard a 110 year-old Dutch boat docked at Ipswich Marina. Originally launched in 1899, the boat has a long and varied history – including being sunk, raised and repaired, and also once being fitted out as a Red Cross hospital ship. However, it has been a much loved French restaurant since 1994, retaining many original features that reflect its authenticity. Guests are well cared for by helpful and friendly staff and may choose from an extensive menu, including A La Carte dining, at a very reasonable price whilst taking in the views across the Mariner. Opening times are Tuesday-Saturday for both lunch and dinner.

Maison Bleue, Fine Dining in Suffolk

Maison Bleue Restaurant
In the heart of the beautiful and historic town of Bury St Edmunds is the wonderful Maison Bleue, serving superb French cuisine. This restaurant has a reputation that is tough to beat – being the owner of 2 AA Rosettes and also being voted the winner of the East of England 'Good Food Guide' Restaurant of the Year 2010. Guests will be spoilt for choice by the great many delicious options available on the menu, and fans of sea food will not be disappointed. There is also an extensive wine list, plus bookings of up to 120 people are available – Maison Bleue is a very popular restaurant so early booking is always advised. Opening times are Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, and an early pre-theatre dinner is available upon request.

The Great House Restaurant & Hotel, Fine Dining in Suffolk

The Great House Restaurant & Hotel
As with the previous two restaurants, The Great House Restaurant & Hotel offers excellent French cuisine in a delightful and rich fine dining setting within the market place in Lavenham. First built during the wool trade era and lived in as a private house, The Great House has been extensively – but lovingly – renovated, and was turned into a boutique hotel in 1985. The accommodation comprises of five luxurious en suite bedrooms with over-sized beds, and guests are warmly welcomed with complimentary fruit and decanter of sherry. The restaurant - winner of the East of England 'Good Food Guide' Restaurant of the Year 2009 - reflects the wonderful old-world charm of the house, and features French doors that open onto a pretty stone-paved courtyard. Diners will again be treated to an extensive menu and wine list, and pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

The Bildeston Crown
With its charming atmosphere and exclusive furnishings, The Bildeston Crown restaurant really is the epitome of the perfect English restaurant. Classic paintings fill the walls beneath the original centuries old beams and architecture. Each table laid out to perfection with beautifully modern tableware. The contrast of the fine classic and subtle modern surrounding really bring together the restaurant as one of The Crowns unique characteristics.

Food is an integral part of The Bildeston Crown experience and menus range from individual dining options to the full Taster menu, an eight course meal perfect for a great meal out.

The George, Cavendish
The fresh produce of the season is always utilised in the imaginative menu and the finest wine producers are featured on the wine list along with superb real ales, like the locally produced Woodeford's Wherry. Look out for the special themed evenings, usually on the first Tuesday of each month, where the cost of a four course meal is very reasonable.

Milsoms Hotel & Restaurant
Milsoms Restaurant in Dedham is a stylish and contemporary bar and brasserie with a no booking policy but all day dining to ensure you get your table! Whilst the milsoms hotel offers fifteen (competitively priced) fabulous bedrooms.
Two private dining options make milsoms the ideal venue to catch up with friends and family (Children welcomed) or entertain business clients, breakfast, lunch or dinner. With friendly staff and relaxed surrounds, it really is the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine at the end of a hectic day. At milsom's, guests enjoy 'global' cuisine, with their chefs taking influences from all over the world, as well as daily specials that take full advantage of the local, seasonal produce available throughout the year.

The Fox and Goose Inn & Restaurant
Fressingfield boasts The Fox and Goose Inn, a fine dining restaurant featuring specials such as chicken breast with potato mille-feuille, pea puree, pickled wild mushrooms, rocket and a chicken jus; as well as risotto of asparagus, peas and spinach, with a parmesan, fennel, apple and mizuna lettuce leaf salad. Desert specials include elderflower panna cotta with strawberries and a cumin tuile. Open every day except Monday.

Fine Dining in Ipswich
Several fine dining options are available in Ipswich, including a great treat for foodies in Suffolk Food Hall. Suffolk Food Hall features a wide variety of specialty meats, cheeses, and farm fresh produce. A trip to the Hall can provide you with all the ingredients you need for your own at home gourmet meal.

In addition to offering golf, The Fynn Valley Golf Club & The Valley Restaurant also offers a wide variety of fine dining options, including a pensioner's lunch offer - every Thursday 2 courses from our special menu of home-cooked, freshly prepared dishes for only £10, with three courses for only £12.50, available 12.00-1.00pm, proof of age may be required. In addition, the Early Bird Menu offers three courses for 2 people for only £17.95.

Hintlesham Hall Hotel, a 21st Century haven of comfort and friendly professionalism within a Grade 1 Listed Elizabethan Manor House, Hintlesham Hall is to be found nestling in 175 acres of rolling Suffolk countryside.

The accent is on friendly professionalism and the heart of Hintlesham Hall is the opportunity simply to relax and perhaps wander around the grounds or countryside before enjoying Chef's latest menus and depleting our award winning wine cellar. Also, you can enjoy Cookery Days With Alan Ford, a day of culinary delights with Hintlesham Hall’s Head Chef.

Morning coffee and homemade shortbread will be served upon arrival at 9.30am (9.00am on Christmas Entertaining dates) followed by a demonstration in our working kitchen. Chef will guide you through every stage of each of his specially designed menus, incorporating tips and tricks of the trade along the way. After the demonstration, relax with an aperitif and canapés in one of our sumptuous lounges before enjoying an exquisite three course meal in our restaurant. We then invite you to retire to the lounge for tea, coffee and petit fours before experiencing a guided tour of the Hall.

Rutland Arms Hotel
Newmarket’s Rutland Arm’s Hotel offers a wonderful welcome to guests. This former coaching inn is located in the heart of Suffolk and is built around a cobbled courtyard that dates from the reign of Charles II, circa 1651. Many of the original features can still be seen in the hotel and although the comfort and atmosphere is most definitely modern, the two combine impeccably.
Fine English and Continental cuisine is served in the Saddle Room Restaurant, prepared using fresh, local ingredients, while informal dining is available in the Nell Gwen Bar & Bistro.

Lady Florence River Cruise Restaurant
In Orford, fantastic dinners can be had not just on land, but also on the river. The Lady Florence River Cruise Restaurant offers fine dining on the river. Sailing year round, with a cosy coal fire in winter, The Lady Florence River Cruise Restaurant is designed to provide a different and exciting fine-dining experience. As the vessel cruises the calm waters of the rivers Alde and Ore, we serve freshly prepared fine foods and drink. From the quiet serenity of winter to the activity of summer, the rivers offer outstanding scenery to accompany your meal. Every cruise includes an informative commentary on both the intriguing history that made this area, and the wildlife which now inhabits it.

The Crown and Castle
Also in Orford, good food is a core ingredient of the Crown and Castle. Part of the reason is that co-proprietor, Ruth Watson, is an award-winning food writer and a long-time contributor to Sainsbury’s Magazine and BBC Good Food. She has also written three best-selling books, The Really Helpful Cookbook, Fat Girl Slim and Something for the Weekend. In the summer, you may find simple dishes such as dressed Cromer crab salad; Orford lobster with garlic butter; Snape asparagus with hollandaise sauce; or locally grown loganberries with Jersey cream, on the menu. In winter, it may be Suffolk pheasant with lentil ragout and wilted greens; slow-roast Gloucester Old Spot pork belly with mussels and shellfish broth; or hot bitter chocolate mousse. The restaurant, the Trinity, has a relaxed but lively ambience. Most importantly, it neither looks nor feels like a typical hotel restaurant. With 2 AA rosettes, a Michelin bib gourmand, and good write-ups in all the major guides, guests often cite the food as a major reason for visiting.

The New Roundhouse Restaurant
Located in Saxmunham, The New Roundhouse is an intimate family run restaurant with a large garden set amongst woodland on the A12 between Yoxford and Blythburgh. Easily accessible from Beccles, Southwold, Aldeburgh, Woodbridge and the surrounding areas. The menu is mainly traditional British fare with a modern accent. We pride ourselves on using the best quality local ingredients, and all menu items are freshly made on the premises.

The decor of the restaurant somewhat belies the traditional thatched exterior. It is light and airy with white linen nappery. The service style is discreet, but friendly and attentive. Lunch and dinner menus change regularly and there are various special evenings. The New Round House Restaurant offers as standard vegetarian choices on our menu and can accommodate any dietary requirements by prior arrangements.

Crown Hotel
Southwold features three fantastic choices for fine dining. Crown Hotel is an exciting and intimate combination of small hotel, wine bar, pub and restaurant, The Crown is always buzzing with a lively informality. The food is famously good and the wine list wonderful. You don’t have to take our word for it – The Crown was named ‘Wine Pub of the Year’ by the Morning Advertiser and ‘Central & East Anglia’s Best Hotel of the Year’ by Les Routiers.

Sutherland House Hotel & Restaurant
Sutherland House Hotel and Restaurant is not just a fine dining establishment, it is a neighbourhood restaurant which serves local food for local people. Guests are welcome to drop in for a glass of wine and a plate of tapas in front of the fire; a gourmet sandwich; a home-made Red Poll beefburger, or a British classic dish – or to come for a three course meal. There are affordable and more expensive dishes, ranging from £5.25 for a sandwich to £16 for a main course. Sutherland House is a fascinating building, rich in history and now restored to offer a resplendent venue for drinks, meals, functions and fabulous rooms. This fine building has been given a new lease of life and now offers a gorgeous environment with wood burning stoves, rich fabrics, lovingly prepared food and a warm welcome.

The Swan Hotel
The Swan is a wonderful retreat that exudes timeless style – but still has every modern comfort. The Swan’s 42 unique bedrooms are all beautifully furnished. The peaceful drawing room is the perfect place to chat, read and relax. Catch up with local gossip over a pint of Adnams in the bar or enjoy local produce, beautifully cooked in our restaurant – which has two AA rosettes.

The Crown Inn
Stoke by Nayland features The Crown Inn. Reopened in November 2003 after extensive refurbishment, the choice of dining areas promises conviviality and varying degrees of cosiness and privacy, whatever your mood. The Crown sources, wherever possible, local produce for a regularly evolving menu and fishboard.
The Crown Stoke by Nayland, an historic privately owned village Inn has a reputation for making everyone feel welcome - without pretension - simply a passion for good service, food, wine and real ale.

The Case Restaurant with Rooms
The Case Restaurant with Rooms in Sudbury has been completely refurbished. We are proud to say that we can ensure that the service you receive will be impeccable, friendly and will support your family, private function and business needs. We have achieved a Silver Award for excellence in our menu and accommodation by the English Tourist Board and can cater for the most intimate booking, large functions and party bookings. We support dining for the private business sector also and can arrange a menu and private areas using our observatory or main restaurant too.

The Menu at the Case Restaurant with Rooms provides the patron with exquisite home cooked food, simple classic dishes and a flair for local produce, fresh fish bought daily, mouth watering desserts and a full vegetarian menu alongside our daily specials and our scrumptious meat menu.

Ufford Park Hotel, Golf & Spa
Ufford Park is the ideal destination for a relaxing getaway break with your family. It is perfectly situated in the heart of the tranquil Suffolk Countryside and its excellent road links make it an ideal base from which to explore all the best that Suffolk has to offer, such as the nearby charming market town of Woodbridge and famous Anglo-Saxon burial ground at Sutton Hoo, stunning Constable Country and, of course, Suffolk’s unspoilt heritage coastline.

The Swan at Lavenham
The Swan at Lavenham, located on Lavenham's High Street is perhaps one of England's most iconic hotels.

The Swan dates back to the 15th Century when it played a key role in Lavenham's wool trade. Today it is a quintessential English country hotel and restaurant, proud of its achievement of an AA four star 81% rating and two AA Rosettes. Ancient oak beams and inglenook fireplaces blend beautifully with rich furnishings and fabrics to create the perfect ambiance for rest and relaxation.

The Swan is a wonderful place in which to celebrate a variety of special occasions, including romantic weddings, christenings and family get-togethers. With its warm, intimate atmosphere and serving the very best of modern English cuisine, The Swan offers the finest cuisine in a unique restaurant.

The elegant AA two rosette Gallery Restaurant has a very large inglenook fireplace, plenty of beams, a high vaulted ceiling and a Minstrels’ Gallery. The Restaurant can seat 100 at most so please book early to avoid disappointment.

The Swan also has three other dining areas perfect for private dining occasions - so if you're celebrating a wedding, a birthday or an anniversary, or you want to arrange a unique corporate dining event, The Swan has the restaurant that will be perfect for you.

As you can see, there is a fine dining option to suit all tastes in Suffolk. Booking is always advised, so please click on each link for full details.
