Kids' Days Out in Suffolk
Kids’ Days Out in Suffolk
Suffolk is a wonderful place to spend a day out, or even a family holiday, with the kids. Packed to the brim with a myriad of unique, exciting, educational and entertaining activities for young children, you are sure to find something suitable to keep your little ones occupied and entertained – perhaps while you grab a cup of tea and put your feet up!

If you are the parent of a thrill-seeking ‘wild child’, you can take them along to Anglia Indoor Karting in Ipswich, which offers a full-sized racing circuit and a new under 8's Kubz Karting that is suitable for 5-7 year-olds and features battery-powered karts and a bouncy play area.
Every kid loves a day out at the seaside, and Southwold Pier offers just that. This family-run pier has a traditional amusement arcade full of handmade wacky machines that will have you in fits of giggles, an extremely cheeky Water Clock, a Flash Gordon styled telescope, weather stations, plus a number of places to eat and a Beach Shop selling all of your seaside essentials.
Another classic seaside day out is Mannings Amusement Park in Felixstowe. Mannings is just a stone’s throw from the beach, and has rides that cater for all age groups, a casino, cafe & bar, and crazy golf.

Melford Hall is one of East Anglia's most celebrated Elizabethan houses and has a family connection with Beatrix Potter, who sketched there on her visits. The Hall has a room dedicated to Beatrix Potter memorabilia and is home to the original Jemima Puddleduck doll. The Hall hosts a number of Fun Days, Treasure Hunts, Teddy Bear’s Picnics and many more activities for the kids. Parents can also find areas of interest in the many Exhibitions and Guided Tours on offer, not to mention the beautiful and tranquil gardens and parkland.

For a fun-packed family day out, why not take the kids along to Jimmy's Farm in Ipswich, where they can join the Farm and Nature Trail and learn all about farming, pig keeping and nature, or, if a more physical activity is still the kids’ order of the day, they can go wild in the Adventure Playground which caters for both toddlers and older children alike. For the parents there is a Farmer’s Market, which has been running for over 3 years, or the Garden Shop, which sells an extensive range of farmers’ goodies.
Another great farm to take the whole family along to is the Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, also in Ipswich, where visitors can meet and feed a host of rare breed farm animals, take a walk down the lovely riverside, and maybe have a picnic on the grass or even over-indulge themselves in a Suffolk clotted cream tea.

The Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket has almost 3km of woodland and riverside nature trails for families to walk around, with very friendly animals and rare breeds of cattle. And the Suffolk Wildlife Trust in Ipswich has over 50 nature reserves that are free to visit, plus a huge number of wildlife events and family activity days.
When trying to keep young kids amused you can never go wrong with trains. Younger family members are always enchanted by the engines. Suffolk has several fantastic attractions that will keep everyone from the most ardent train enthusiast to the smallest child entertained.
At Castle Hedingham you will find a gem of an attraction - Colne Valley Railway. Open at weekends and throughout the school holidays, children and their parents will love to see the old steam trains, the working signal box and the garden railway. There is also a farm park on the site.
Thomas the Tank Engine pays regular visits to the railway and there are also special dining events organised. However you choose to spend your time at Colne Valley, you are guaranteed a fantastic day.

Thomas the Tank Engine also makes regular visits to Bressingham Steam and Gardens, near Diss. Also at Bressingham are the lovely gardens where world-renowned gardener and horticulturalist Alan Bloom combined his passion for plants and gardens with his love of steam, to create a truly unique experience for all the family!
Finally, the Mid Suffolk Light Railway recreates typical scenes from “the Middy's” past by using restored coaches and wagons. There are a number of special events, such as Steam Days, held throughout the year, and visitors can also wander around the museum, packed with a number of models, photographs and displays alongside many other interesting artefacts.
