The helpful and friendly kayak and canoe hire centre of Iken Canoe is situated on the beautiful upper reaches of Iken Cliff’s Alde estuary, less than two miles downstream from Snape Malting and a short while upriver of Aldeburgh adjacent to the Suffolk coast.
The centre offers kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddle boards for those seeking to explore the river stretch on their own time. Discover the lovely water floods and creeks, and move with the tide toward the mud banks where wildlife is abundant. Visitors often spot seals playing on the mud banks.
You can hire all the necessary equipment for two hours, half a day, or a full day. Sessions lasting two hours are frequently the most balanced option for most visitors. Your river journey will primarily consist of moving against the river’s tidal flow.
Every guest will receive a complete briefing before every hire, which will include tips on safety, technique, and travel directions. A kit containing paddles, buoyancy aids, and dry bags will also be included.
All kayaks and canoes are suited for any skill level and perfect for a family or group adventure. However, children under the age of seven are not allowed to go on the boats, and persons under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by an adult for safety reasons. People are also not allowed to go paddling alone.
Iken Canoe is open in May and June (weekends only), every day in July and August, and on the first two weekends of September.
