The Ship at Dunwich serves food throughout the whole day during school holidays as well as all day every weekend. The Ship was once a hub for smugglers and is known today as a fantastic place to eat, drink, put your feet up, and escape from everyday life.

This idyllic, quiet village is surrounded by stunning heathland, nature reserves, and coastline, with the romantic ruins of the monastery telling the tale of the once buzzing medieval port that was completely overwhelmed by the immense waves of a dramatic storm. Some believe that, if you listen closely, you can still hear the ringing of church bells roaring from the waves. Find authentic food, ales, and a warming fire along with comfy, elegantly furnished rooms boasting unrivalled sea or marshland views. A massive garden flaunting its colourful fruit trees and a lovely beach within walking distance is just some of the many things to admire here.

Whether The Ship at Dunwich serves as your base for exploring the beautiful coastline or if you want to taste authentic British fish and chips with a refreshing pint of Adnams, you are sure to return to this welcoming site.

Eat/Drink
After a refreshing drink in the beautiful covered courtyard, in the conservatory, or at the bar, you’ll likely be craving something a bit more filling. The Ship’s cuisine consists of traditional flavours in homemade masterpieces at reasonable prices.

The menu contains a wide selection of meals for every taste, from fish pie and rump burger to lemon meringue and sticky toffee pudding. Complement your food with one of the many fine wines or delicious ales and beers, which includes Adnams along with a wide range of guest ales.

The Ship at Dunwich stands for quality, good, and honest fare. Enjoy a scrumptious lunch in the garden, at the bar, or in the conservatory, and make your way to the dining room furnished with scrubbed pine tables and sisal matting for dinner.

The Good Hotel Guide 2017 recognised The Ship at Dunwich, which became one of only a few hotels in Suffolk to be awarded this honour. Following numerous royals readers’ reports and letters of recommendation sent to the editors, The Ship has been shortlisted.
The Guide always recognises places that overflow with character and warm hospitality toward Irish and British guests.

Stay
After a long walk on the beach, what more could you ask for than a satisfying dinner and a comfortable bed where the sounds of the waves sing you to sleep??

The Ship at Dunwich contains 16 comfortable and refurbished bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Many rooms treat guests to views of the ocean or the marsh.

Some rooms have recently been renovated, but the authentic character of The Ship is kept alive in the furniture, which includes a traditional iron bedstead decorated with feather duvets and mattresses. Each room has coffee and tea facilities, toiletries from The White Company, and quality TVs. The rooms do not contain phones, but the site offers great mobile signals.

We also happily welcome children and dogs…
